The Varsity football team started the season off on the right foot on Thursday with a dominant 48-20 win over the visiting Morenci Bulldogs. Leading the way for the Wildcat offense was Senior Peyton Street who finished with 145 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns on just 7 carries. Street also pulled in one reception for 8 yards in the win. Junior running backs Martelle Enright and Matthew Lehew finished with 82 yards and 77 yards rushing on the ground, each adding a touchdown run. Junior Quarterback Cale Hackenberg connected with Junior Abram Coffey on a 75 yard touchdown reception, Hackenberg finished the game 2/2 for 83 yards and the score to Coffey. The Marcellus defense was led by Senior Marvin Jones who notched 12 tackles and a fumble recovery in the win. Junior Leighton Osborn also finished with 12 stops on the night. Brae Newcomb added 10 tackles of his own, Blake McWilliams had 9, Eli Torres added 8, and Cale Hackenberg finished with 5 tackles plus an interception return for a touchdown. The Wildcats will travel to Martin this Friday to take on the Clippers who are coming off of their own dominant 58-20 win over Bridgman.
